Larry - Cruising Low & Slow

When War created their classic 1975 hit “Lowrider,” they must have had a time machine set to 2020 and saw Larry rolling by in his 1955 Apache jamming to some old school tunes. His truck is the epitome of the term low and slow, and when I say low I mean absolutely low. He embraces the low low culture and cruises all around town with no AC and arm hanging out the window. When you look at the pictures know that the truck at ride height is only about an inch higher than what is sits aired out.

The way Larry achieves this ride height by tossing out the old airside management system the truck came with because it was unreliable and put in the Air Lift system to tuck those massive Detroit Steel 20”x8” rims. While the truck is cruising it looks like a cartoon truck floating across the road. The white wall tires round out the vintage look and matches the bumpers and trim. Larry says is such a smooth ride and love the way it handles and was very impressed and thinks it rides like a Cadillac.

The interior is where Larry has done most of the custom tailored modifications to set up a truck that was made for a smaller sized generation. At 6’2” Larry needed a seat and pedal set up that would be comfortable for him on long cruises. He bought a $40 seat and cut it up to fit him perfectly while he heated up the pedal assembly so that his gas and breaks are far enough away from each other. He has a total sound system with 7 speakers to ensure that everyone can enjoy the same tunes he enjoys. The long shifter gives the stock looking interior that added vintage hotrod look.

The 4.8 Vortech motor is a reliable workhorse that keeps this beautiful truck running the streets of Houston with no issues. The motor is packed up nicely and looks right at home in the extremely clean engine bay. Larry says he plans on upgrading the motor with a larger cam do him him a little more power to pass suckers on the interstate. The exterior needs no introduction, the original patina is unique to say the least. Keeping patina paint is great because every truck ages a little different and makes natures paint job custom and unlike any other on the road. Larry likes it so much he sold a recently painted C10 and would like to replace it with the same year with original patina instead of glossy paint. The classic white trim on turquoise with the right amount of rust color looks like something you would find on the side of the road on Route 66.

If you see Larry cruising the interstate in Houston with his arm hanging out the window and sweat on his brow in the middle of a Texas summer give him a honk and a thumbs up. Know that he cruising and loving every second of it while embracing the old school hotrod culture. If you have any questions for Larry email the show. If you want to find Larry online, he’s on Facebook at Larry Oviedo or on instagram @ellarryo where he has tons of pics of all of his cars.
